Definition
Packet monkey is a derogatory term for individuals who deliberately flood servers with large amounts of data packets to cause a denial-of-service (DOS) attack. They lack the knowledge to develop their own tools and depend on techniques created by more skilled hackers.
Packet Monkey Traits
- Packet monkeys usually have limited technical knowledge of cybersecurity and network protocols.
- They rarely develop their own attack strategy. Instead, packet monkeys highly depend on web-based hacking tools and techniques.
- Packet monkeys typically trail known attack patterns because of their limited knowledge and programming skills.
- Their motives can range from curiosity, notoriety, or funny pranks. Although packet monkeys can wreak enormous harm, they are unlikely to be driven by profit or have the knowledge necessary to exploit stolen data like black hat hackers.
- Packet monkeys may not completely understand their actions’ ethical and legal implications.
