Definition
Malicious code is a general term for various harmful software programs that exploit or cause vulnerabilities, potentially causing significant damage. This can lead to data theft, security breaches, and damage to files and systems. Hackers can also use malicious code to create backdoors to access networks and devices.
Malicious Code Types
Here are the most common types of malicious code:
- Trojans: This malware disguises itself as another program to deceive you into downloading or activating it on your computer. Once triggered, it enables the attacker to install other types of malware on the device
- Ransomware: This is a virus that specifically encrypts your files or denies you access to your device. Attackers then demand money in return for the decryption key.
- Adware: A type of virus that modifies the users’ desktop and browser home screen, flooding them with advertisements and redirecting them to other potentially harmful sites.
- Spyware: A type of malware that spies and records your activities on your computer, including entering passwords, banking details, and emails.
- Viruses: Once you execute a virus, it can spread and infect other devices. The extent of the damage can range from changing your desktop icons to crashing the system.
