Definition
A 3-way handshake, also known as a TCP 3-way handshake, is a three-step procedure in the TCP/IP network that establishes a link between a customer and a server.
3-way Handshake Example
- The source transmits a SYN message to the destination to create a connection that helps the two devices sync their sequence digits. Subsequently, the recipient sends an ACK message acknowledging that the SYN was delivered. Moreover, the source returns a SYN-ACK message to the recipient, validating the secure connection.
