Note:
When the Automatic Protocol Selection option is disabled, the ExtremeVPN app must be disconnected to switch between protocols. By disabling this option, you can manually select a specific VPN protocol, which will require a temporary disconnection of the app to apply the changes.
Every VPN protocol affects the stability and performance of your connection. Select the right protocol when you connect to a VPN server. ExtremeVPN recommends the protocol automatically to pick the right settings optimized for your needs. However, if the automatic protocol feature doesn’t work, you may need to try switching between different protocols manually.
Protocol Guide:
IPSec:
IPSec is the best option, but it isn’t very fast and mostly works for web browsing.
IKEv2:
It’s the fastest VPN protocol that offers the most stable connection and is used for streaming and downloading.
UDP:
UDP is used mainly for streaming and downloading. It offers a VPN connection with medium encryption.
Wireguard:
Wireguard is best known for its security and speed and is mostly used for streaming and web browsing.
Want to know how you can switch between the protocols? Follow the steps here 👇
Once you’ve selected it, your Protocol will be changed successfully.
Note
Some protocols aren’t available by default. To activate them, you must install a protocol extension on your device.
